The whimsical, yet dark comedy, I Love You Phillip Morris, is also passionately romantic like Brokeback Mountain and thrilling like Can Me If You Can. This dramedy is based on the life of Steven Russell and his journey from small-town cop, to open homosexual, to outrageously brash white-collar criminal. The charming con man and prison escape artist (played by Jim Carrey) met his soul mate, Phillip Morris (played by Ewan McGregor), while a cellmate in a Texas state prison.
I Love You Phillip Morris is co-written and co-directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa from their adapted screenplay, based on the novel by former Houston Chronicle investigative reporter, Steve McVicker.
Comic genius Jim Carrey entertains us, to no end both, with bawdy sexual humor as well as the real life antics of his fascinating character. Even more amazing are believable passionate portrayals by Carrey and Ewan McGregor, from whom you are simply observing a love story unfold between two people, -who just happen to be gay.
