Do you remember as a child, falling off of your new bicycle onto the pavement? Falling down on the basketball court? Tripping or slipping on a sidewalk and catching yourself on your elbows? It hurt didn't it? Not one of us think about just how hard and unforgiving the pavement is until we land on it; knowing in that very instant the pain will reach our brain in less than a second. Then it hits you like a ton of bricks. Searing pain and the realization of "How did this happen?"
Well, more than likely, you were distracted in some way, and not paying attention. And, more than likely, the next time you were riding that bike, passed that spot on the basketball court or walked down that icy sidewalk, you didn't make the same mistake twice. You were more informed, more educated and less distracted, so that wouldn't happen again.
This is all well and good for skinned knees, cuts and bruises due to a childhood mishap, but what about driving? The pavement hurts much more when a 2000 lb. automobile is on top of you! We are all adults now, and by all rights should have intellectually ascended into a more advanced state of thinking, right? Wrong.
